Northwest Family Services Executive Director Brenda Rose visited Alfalfa County commissioners Garret Johnson, Mike Roach and Nate Ross during their meeting on Monday. She was there to discuss some available grant money from the state that would supplement their existing services.
Rose provided a 24-page document outlining those services and how they would be supplemented. Some of the services, she said, are teaching life skills in the schools to help kids with decision-making, peer pressure and bullying in hopes of preventing substance abuse. According to her understanding, Rose said that the county would have to apply for that money and then contract, give or have a grant to NWFS. She said she would work with the county to get all the details ironed out.
After Rose left, Johnson, Roach and Ross signed routine paperwork, including previous meeting minutes, blanket purchase orders, maintenance and operation warrants for payment, and other reports. They also signed the Delegation of Authority for the FY 2024 Emergency Management Performance Grant Program and the application for it.
After signing the bridge inspection invoice and Report of Conference for all three districts, the commissioners opened quotes for HVAC and plumbing systems for the new Carmen Responders building. For HVAC, they chose AEC Services at $16,000; for the plumbing, they chose Simpsons out of Kiowa, Kansas, for $26,300.
Next, the commissioners accepted a $33,460 quote from Advanced Workzone Services for line pavement marking for three projects in District 3. Lastly, they signed an agreement for the Office of Attorney General 2024 Sheriff's Office Funding Program application.
