Roy M. Gwinn was born on the family farm south of Helena, Oklahoma, on May 16, 1928, to Louis and Alice (Rupert) Gwinn and passed away on August 26, 2024 at the age of 96.
He was the youngest of six boys. He attended rural elementary school at Highland along with his brother Claude, and they rode to school on horseback. He graduated from Helena High School in 1946. During his youth, he purchased a combine and participated in harvest along with his brother Percy. Roy commuted to college at Oklahoma A&M on his Harley Davidson and earned a degree in engineering in 1952. Two months later he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he was employed for many years at Tinker Air Force base as a B52 specialist.
In 1962 he was united in marriage to Hearlby Srygley and was her devoted husband until her passing in 2003. He found happiness again and married Marcy Hunter in 2005.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Percy, Archie, Forrest, Lee, and Claude; two nephews; and one niece.
Roy is survived by his spouse, Marcy; nieces, Marilyn (Gwinn) Long; Roxie (Gwinn) Bryant; Kayla (Gwinn) O’Daniel; and Marlo Flournoy; and nephews, Jo Gwinn and Mitchell Streich.
Roy will be remembered for his love of the Lord, family, and country. His warm smile and kind heart are forever in the memories of those who loved him.
