Four dedicated Waynoka students recently attended the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington. The conference, held from June 28 through July 3, brought together over 8,000 FCCLA members and guests from across the country.
Serenity Green, Keira Durkee, and Aubry Delano competed in the STAR Events, a program that recognizes students for their leadership, community service, and career preparation projects. Although they did not place, their hard work and dedication to their projects were evident and commendable.
One of the group members, Rhiata Bouziden, had an outstanding performance. She won her STAR Event in the Focus on Children Division 2 category at the national level. Her project, titled "SEL: A Little Spot of Emotion," focused on social and emotional learning (SEL). Rhiata's project was aimed at second-grade students but also included lessons for students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
Rhiata's journey to success started by placing second at the regional level and then winning the state competition, which qualified her to compete at the national level. Her innovative approach and dedication to SEL played a key role in her success.
While in Seattle, the students also had many memorable experiences. They visited the iconic Seattle Space Needle, explored the Seattle Aquarium, shopped at Pike Place Market, cheered for the Seattle Mariners, and enjoyed a sunset cruise of Puget Sound. Many of the ladies had never traveled on an airplane but are not traverse travelers. These activities provided fun and relaxation and valuable bonding time for the students.
The FCCLA National Leadership Conference is an excellent platform for students to develop leadership skills, participate in competitive events, and network with peers and professionals. This event provided valuable experiences for all participants, fostering growth and recognition.
The community's support was crucial to the success of Serenity, Keira, Aubry, and Rhiata. Their achievements reflect not only their hard work but also the encouragement and backing they received. The students and their families extend their heartfelt thanks to the community for making these accomplishments possible.
