Alfalfa County Sheriff Gary Mast seeks grant funding for new equipment

Alfalfa County commissioners Garret Johnson and Mike Roach manned the meeting this week without Nate Ross. The two men were joined by County Clerk Laneta Schwerdtfeger and got started by handling the usual orders of business: minutes, blanket purchase orders, maintenance and operation warrants for payment.

After that, they signed the County's financial statement for the fiscal year that just ended June 30, followed by approving authorized signers at Gateway Bank for the Payroll Tax and County General accounts and authorized signers at ACB Bank for the official depository account.

Next, Johnson and Roach approved a $20,000 transfer from District 2 CED Small Project account 1102-6-4200-2079 to the District 2 M&O account 1102-6-4200-2005 for the reimbursement for CED Small Project. Then, they signed the ACCO-SIG (FY 24-25) resolution and two-payment option.

After that, they heard from Sheriff Gary Mast about a grant he applied for that would help purchase equipment for the sheriff's office. Oklahoma House Bill 2914 created the Oklahoma Sheriff's Office Funding Assistance Grant Program during this year's legislative session and appropriated $18 million to the fund. Counties can apply for grants from $150,000 to $300,000, depending on their total tangible property valuation. Mast said there were about $150,000 worth of things he wanted to get for the department, including radios and vests. The application process just recently opened, and the new sheriff wasted no time putting Alfalfa County in the applicant pool.

After the sheriff was done, the commissioners declared surplus on several items from the sheriff's office: Watchguard body camera (Inv. no. B613 100.09, Serial no. WFCI-110456); WatchGuard body camera (Inv. no. B613 100.1, Serial no. WFCI-110447); WatchGuard body camera (Inv. no. B613 100.11, Serial no. WFCI-110395); WatchGuard body camera (Inv. no. B613 100.12, Serial no. WFCI-110454); WatchGuard body camera (Inv. no. B613 100.13, Serial no. WFCI-110451); Uniden scanner (Inv. no. B602 100.06, Serial no. B1B1317). Johnson and Roach signed resolutions for the disposal of this equipment, along with disposal resolutions for a 2011 Chevy Tahoe (Inv. no. B331.100.14, Serial no. 1GNSK2E03BR287122, and a 2013 Chevy Tahoe (Inv. no. B331.100.17, Serial no. 1GNSK2E06DR187051).

There wasn't any new business, and the meeting adjourned.
