BOBBIE LEE "BOB" REED

Graveside services for Bobbie Lee "Bob" Reed will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Garrison Cemetery with Taylor Anderson officiating.

Bobbie Lee Reed, son of the late Ray Jesse Reed and Christie Virginia Ritchie-Reed, was born October 27, 1929, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away February 20, 2024, at his home in Alva at the age of 94.

Bob attended school in Alva and, before graduating, joined the National Guard, where he served in the Korean War. On August 24, 1952, he married Nadine Joy Reed at her parents' home in Dacoma, Oklahoma. To that marriage, they had three children.

Bob worked many jobs through the years. From a cook in the National Guard that helped cultivate his love of cooking (garlic smoked cheese was his specialty) to what most people remember him for, his work for the Soil Conservation Service and farming. He worked 32 years for the Soil Conservation Service before retiring and continued farming well after retirement. During this time, he built the majority of the ponds in Woods County.

In his retirement, his grandchildren brought him the most joy. He competitively taught them how to hunt, fish (tying the perfect knot), and farm. He rarely missed a ball game or a track meet. Three of his lifelong passions were traveling with Nadine, westerns, and going to gun and coin shows as a dealer. He met many friends along the way.

In his later years, he helped pick guns out for his great-grandchildren, taught them about coins, made some killer deals with them, shared artifacts he found during his soil conservation days and made a lap book about his life for them. He always enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table, haggling, and telling stories about when he was a kid.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Sondra Reed, Virginia Fisher, Bonnie Forcum, Beverly Yadon, and one brother, Kenneth Reed.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Allyn Lee Reed of Alva and Leland Don Reed of Dacoma; one daughter, Gayla Marie Schubert and husband, Jon, of Lyons, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Amy Seck and husband, Keith, of Sterling, Kansas, Lezlee Reed of Norman, Melissa Reed of Enid, Alicia Reed of Alva, Audrey Widman and husband, Mike, of Manhattan, Kansas, Dustin Schubert and wife Christy, of Lyons, Kansas, Tara Morasch and husband, Mason, of Kansas City; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the City of Alva for the Swimming Pool.
