"Born and raised as a Dallas Cowboys fan, it was not a pleasure to wear red. My dad in heaven may not be real proud of me. But I think he would understand I'll do anything to benefit the children! One time was plenty though," South Barber Elementary Principal Kaynette Scheck said with a laugh.
Prior to the school's book fair, librarian Darise Fillmore made a wager with the principal known as "The Change Drive." If students could bring enough coins to raise at least $1,200, their principal would have to dress as a Kansas City Chief's fan for Halloween. Scheck said the students exceeded the challenge so she had to borrow some KC Chiefs memorabilia.
By raising the more than $1,200, every single child at the elementary could purchase a book at the book fair, Scheck explained.
South Barber Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller thanked Principal Scheck "for being a good sport." He also thanked Kiowa's Hometown Market for providing treat bags for students during the downtown Halloween Parade. He mentioned appreciation to the City of Kiowa, Kiowa Police Department, Kiowa Fire Department and Kansas Highway Patrol for blocking the streets and "keeping our kids safe! We had a beautiful afternoon with some really outstanding and creative costumes.
