Two of the three mural artists were at work Thursday morning for the Northwest Mural Fest in Alva. Summer Scott, owner of Signs by Summer and a high school art teacher, is from Kingfisher. In her business she specializes in calligraphy and hand-lettered signs. Her mother Kristy Stevens accompanied her to Alva and is assisting with Scott's mural on the west side of the Vanilla Bean on Oklahoma Boulevard.
Candy Kuo, a Taiwanese-American visual artist, is from Austin, Texas. Thursday she was outlining her mural on a black background on the south side of Sights and Sounds (Radio Shack) just south of the downtown square on College Avenue. The mural is located around the corner along the alley. Kuo was also accompanied by her family, Wade Thompson and daughter Atticus.
The third muralist is Chris Bodelle, an Oklahoma tattoo artist. He will be working at K & K Body Shop just east of the downtown square on Flynn Street.
The public is invited to visit the mural sites to see the progress. Painting will continue through Saturday morning.
The mural fest kicks off Friday afternoon with music from 2 to 6 p.m. downtown. There will be inflatables and free train rides. The little train accepts adult riders as well as kids and will tour murals in the downtown area. Food trucks will also be available Friday.
Saturday starts off with a 5K fun run at 8 a.m. and the artists will sign their (hopefully) completed work about 1 p.m.
