Outdoor Learning Center welcome addition

Burlington Schools now has an outdoor learning center available for use by all classes. The Somerhalder family contacted the school wanting to provide something of educational value to Burlington Schools. After consideration of different projects, the outdoor learning center became the focus.

The outdoor learning center is a project that can directly impact each student at the school. The outdoor learning center allows students to be outside on nice days to read, learn and grow emotionally. The Somerhalders began the process with a donation. Additional funding is coming from other private entities.

Mr. Spears said, "Our immediate plan is to begin landscaping and make the area a destination spot for our students. In the future we would like to add outdoor learning panels, sensory panels and outdoor instruments for students to have other options. I hope this gives the students an option to go outside and learn in a different environment. I believe this outdoor learning center will encourage students to want to go outside and learn. So far we have had multiple elementary teachers use this facility."
