Tuesday, March 28, at the Northwest Technology Center, the Democrat Party is hosting a meet and greet at 6 p.m. Much like a true politician, I have my campaign promises ready. Or maybe I should just challenge my opponent to a joke telling session. All kidding aside, the city marshal, other than spreading good will, doesn't make any big changes in Alva. You need to come out and listen to the city council candidates, because they do affect the future of our city. Has anyone heard about what we will get for free food? Here we go again.
With the failure of two large banks comes news that over 100 banks could fail in the future. One article I read said the government needed to step up and save these banks. I say bunk to that.
There are over 4,000 FDIC insured banks in the United States. For grins and giggles if 100 of them failed, that is only 2.5% of the total number. There are plenty of big banks just waiting to expand, so no help is needed. What makes my blood boil is the last time this happened the government put billions into insolvent banks, and the CEOs of those banks got millions in bonuses. My reward for inefficiency would be a job at a quick trip. Not so much if you are a banker.
I was looking through the Review-Courier's obituaries online and for Feb. 22 Carl's Capitol Comments were listed in the obituaries. Is there a message in there somewhere? Perhaps, because the article was about the recreational marijuana vote, maybe providence knew this was where the vote was going to wind up.
I have been at the hospital with a couple of people recently and am a bit puzzled. When someone is warm, or like Cleo, and needs to feel the air blowing across her, they have trouble finding a fan. The reason is they have a short supply of free-standing fans for the whole hospital. It looks like a Walmart fan, nothing special. When I get a chance, I will ask someone important why they can only afford a few fans.
Let's all be safe out there and God bless.
