Shine your light on me!

Imagine the snow falling over the landscape, floating effortlessly as huge flakes make their way to the barren ground. Mother Nature has deposited a dreadful cold this time of the year that makes travel outside the home or business miserable. Imagine that this scenario goes on for a few days and we begin to be chilled all the way to our bones. Our muscles begin to ache, and we try to find warmth anywhere we can, but there is no reprieve, nowhere we can go to escape this dreadful arctic weather. A fire is lit in the fireplace to keep us warm on a cold and wintry night, but even that doesn’t take the chill off the bone.

Then one day we wake up and the sun is shining, and the temperature outside has risen to a comfortable degree. We make our way to a window where the curtains are drawn, or even outside, where we can soak up the rays of the sun that are so warm and comforting. I many times wonder why the simple rays of the sun make us feel so wonderful inside and gives us energy, happiness and joy.

Well, God created the sun to bless us with these things. God created our bodies to crave the rays of the sun, whether in warm weather or cold, sunshine on our bodies give us energy, happiness, and joy. It’s a reminder of the greatness of our God and what he does for us.

God also shines His light down on us when the lonely, cold and dark times come in our lives, and we feel like the sun will never shine again. We need to have faith that God will bring the rays of the sun to His children. Psalm 84:10-12 says, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.” God promises that He will give us the rays of the sun to give us energy, happiness and joy if we will but trust in Him! The encouragement this week is to lean on the Lord, and He will shine his blessings down upon us.
