ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State split its week with a last-second loss to Southern Arkansas before turning around and beating Arkansas-Monticello Saturday afternoon 82-74. Parsons started both games for the Rangers finishing with game high in points each outing, helping the Rangers to their first conference victory Saturday.
This is Malik Parsons’ third Great American Conference player of the week award this season after his first two early in the season on Nov. 21 and 28 on back-to-back weeks.
The Ranger guard finished the week with 52 total points averaging 26 a game, including a 29-point performance in the win on Saturday. Parsons finished with 29 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the field including 11 foul shots. On top of his offense Parsons finished with two steals and a block Saturday while adding four assists and four rebounds.
On the season Parsons is now averaging 22.6 points per game scoring at least 20 in four of the last five games and scoring over 30 twice this season. Along with scoring he leads the Rangers in steals with 17 on the season.
Northwestern hits the road this week for two games in Arkadelphia, Ark. – first against Henderson State on Thursday evening before playing Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon.
