Grow and Share OHCE met for its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the home of Janet Cunningham. Cunningham served as hostess with Mary Hamilton as co-hostess. Members brought dishes and a Thanksgiving feast was enjoyed by all. President Cunningham called the meeting to order with all present reciting the flag salute. Eleven members and one guest answered roll call to: “Do you collect vintage kitchen items?” Minutes for the October meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report given.
Jean Sneary reported that she has received a thank you from the Northwestern Foundation for a scholarship donation.
For the Cultural Enrichment Committee report, Cunningham reported that they are still waiting on the LDCE grant notification.
Unfinished business included discussion of several events. Cunningham, Carol Erikson and Carol McDaniel attended the planning meeting for the West District meeting to be held in Enid on March 25, 2023. The same three served as volunteers for the Reality Check event held Nov. 8 at the Alva High School. Cunningham and Carol Eriskon also attended the Holiday Happenings event on Nov. 10 in Cherokee.
Under new business, the group discussed the year-end awards for OHCE. Jean Sneary was nominated for Heart of OHCE, Ruth Welborn for Rookie of the Year and Rochell Wright for Young Member of the Year. The nominations were approved by acclamation.
Carol McDaniel presented the lesson on “Kitchens of the Past.” Cunningham gave a mini-lesson on Mod Podge decorated pumpkins. Secret pal gifts were exchanged. Members then wrote Thanksgiving cards to be delivered to Beadles Nursing Home.
The meeting adjourned to the December regular meeting to be held on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in Cunningham's home. All members will bring finger foods and a gift for the Secret Sister gift exchange.
