Waynoka FFA hosts 'Best of the Best' Reasons Camp

The Waynoka FFA hosted the "Best of the Best" Reasons Camp from May 23 to May 25. During this time there were many classes of breeding does, breeding ewes, performance bulls, simmental heifers, red angus heifers, market hogs, and breeding gilts evaluated. FFA and 4-H livestock judging teams traveled from Alva, Fairview, Kingfisher, Seiling, Shattuck, Vinita, and Waynoka to attend.

Throughout the three days beginners had help from Marlie Farris and Todd Blocker learning how to memorize a set of reasons while also presenting them well. Brooke Ferguson and Keith Martin helped intermediates work on writing a set by themselves and giving them to the reasons taker. Advanced learned more terms to use and helping them were Lane Howe, Chris Hall, and Tyler Gradert. Students learned how to memorize, set up and present a set of reasons.

They also learned about bull EPD's. EPD is short for expected progeny differences. The focus for the attendees was to work on building a set of reasons and presenting them well. They gave them to various ag teachers and college students to build up their confidence and reasons vocabulary. We appreciate all of the students and ag teachers for coming and participating in this camp. Also we would like to thank the following: Bixler Ranch, McMurphy Farms, and Redgate Cattle Company for providing cattle classes, Jimmy Davis for providing sheep classes, Chris Kelln for providing goat classes, and Gosney Livestock for providing hog classes. The chapter says a big thank you to the sponsors and volunteers for making this such a successful event.
