Hebrews 11 is about faith, beginning with a definition. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Is faith important? Verse 6 says, “without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God, must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Hebrews 11 is full of people of faith. Faith is more than belief in God, that God exists. It must include the idea that God will reward those who seek him, diligently. We cannot please God by accident, or in ignorance, we need to seek God. We have to study and understand what He expects from His people.
Many men and women of faith are mentioned in Hebrews 11. What is the common thread that connects them to God? Action. They are remembered for believing and trusting God enough to act, to do what was required of them when it was needed. Each of their stories is different. Each is a story of faith and obedience. Verse 6 says, he who “comes to God” must believe that He is, that He rewards.
Are you coming to God, or are you waiting for God to come to you? In Matthew 19:14, Jesus says suffer the little children to come unto me, or let the little children come unto me. God wants us to come to Him in faith, believing that He will reward those who are obedient. Faith in God includes faith that His commands for His people matter.
Hebrews 12:28 “…serve God acceptably with reverence and fear.” Men and women of faith are remembered for serving God, in manners acceptable to Him.
