“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43 NLT) are the words that Jesus said to the criminal who was next to him hanging on the cross. While bleeding to death and suffocating on the cross, Jesus took the time to assure the criminal that he will be with Him in Heaven. The criminal acknowledged he is a sinner and that Jesus is Lord. This very moment was the reason why Jesus came to Earth. He came to be the perfect sacrifice so everyone who believes in Him can have eternal life.
Today we celebrate Good Friday, and take time to remember the amazing love of God: how He sent His one and only son that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. This is the week that we celebrate our salvation, our personal relationship with our heavenly Father, because of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for each of us. If there is one thing you take away from this devotional, it is to be thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice that allows the opportunity for us to have a right relationship with God.
The second amazing part of Jesus’ sacrifice is that He didn’t stay dead. On the third day, Jesus rose from the grave and became our living hope. Even though we still face a broken world here on Earth, we have new, living and everlasting hope. Our hope is for today, tomorrow and for all of eternity. The part I love the most about Jesus’ death and resurrection is He didn’t leave us alone. He asked our heavenly Father to send us the Holy Spirit after He left. So each one of us has the opportunity to live a Spirit-filled life like Jesus. We can live a life holy and pleasing to God. I’m excited to see how God will use you to reach others like Jesus did.
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your own personal Lord and Savior, then now is the time. It’s as easy as ABC. A – acknowledge you are a sinner in need of a Savior. B – believe that Jesus Christ is the one true son of God. C – confess your sins. That’s it. Salvation is a free gift available to everyone. All God wants is for us to have a humble heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. If you made a decision today to dedicate yourself to Jesus Christ then go tell someone. We want to celebrate with you and your new life in Jesus Christ.
