Alfalfa County to go out for six-month bids for cover materials

Alfalfa County commissioners breezed through their short agenda Monday morning. Mike Roach, Jay Hague and Marvin Woodall got through approving the maintenance and operation payment warrants, blanket purchase orders, and the last meeting's minutes. There was a road-crossing permit, but there was no charge since it was for a utility.

Afterward, County Clerk Laneta Schwerdtfeger spoke with commissioners about the American Rescue Plan Act federal funds. During a meeting he was at recently, Hague said he found out most restrictions for amounts under $10 million have been lifted. Schwerdtfeger said they had until April 30 to decide how to accept the funds, reminding the three men that they would have to take out the ten percent (of monies already received) they previously voted to allocate to the municipalities within the county.

At their Dec. 6 meeting, the commissioners signed paperwork stating the Alfalfa BOC had received half ($553,773.50) of the ARPA monies of $1,107,547.00 from the United States Government (which may only be used for water, sewer, and telecommunication purposes). The resolution said the BOC would evenly split the minimum of 10 percent of the $1,107,547 (as soon as the second half is received) between Rural Water (representing Burlington, Amorita, Byron, Ingersol, Lambert, Yewed, and Nescatunga), Goltry, Helena, Jet, Carmen, Cherokee, and Aline. The minimum amount would be $110,754.70 split evenly of $15,822.10 each as soon as the second half of the ARPA Funds have been received. Commissioners decided to report by fiscal year instead of a calendar year.

Next, the men signed a claim form for Pinnacle Consulting Management Group, Inc., for District 3, Parcel(s) 2/2.1, 3/3/.1, followed by paperwork for the administrative settlement for Pinnacle Alfalfa Parcel 3 for District 3. Nearing the meeting's end, the commissioners signed approval on a county employee's request for the county to continue paying insurance premiums due to the end of April for ongoing health reasons. That employee is retiring on May 1.

Lastly, approval was given for the county clerk to go out for bid for 3/8" #2 and 5/8" #3 cover materials from the six-month bid list. The window for bidding is March 1-June 30.
