A Kansas woman has been arrested and charged in a stabbing at an Alva motel. Officers were called to the Holiday Motel at 701 E. Oklahoma Blvd. at 1:35 p.m. last Sunday, Jan. 23.
When Alva Police Officers Kris Franta and Keith Dale arrived on the scene, they met Lindsey Ellis in the parking lot. She is described as having blood on the back and sides of her shirt and pants.
Franta asked what happened, and Ellis said she and her husband, Duncan Ellis, got into an argument and it “blew up” from there. She said her tooth had been knocked out, and he kept hitting her and knocking her around. Ellis said she then cut him.
Ellis said she and her husband had a domestic incident in Andover, Kansas, with an upcoming court date. They were staying in the motel because there was a no contact order, and he was scared that the cops kept coming by to keep them apart.
As they stood outside the open door of the motel room, Franta asked Ellis to give him a more detailed account of the event. Ellis said she and her husband were lying on the bed drinking alcohol and playing cards. She got up to go to the bathroom, and her husband said it was her fault they were in the motel.
Ellis said when she returned, she made a comment to her husband. She said Duncan grabbed her by the back of the neck and shoved her down into the bed, face down, putting all his weight on her. He was also telling her not to yell. Ellis said while being held down, Duncan was striking her head with his hands.
Ellis said she reached back and grabbed the knife from the table by the bed while still being held down. She said that is when Duncan got cut. She said Duncan was able to take the knife from her. According to Ellis, Duncan grabbed her by the throat and threw her down on the other side of the bed while threatening to kill her and her family. She said Duncan then left the room and drove away in their vehicle.
Dale spoke with Duncan Ellis on the phone. Duncan said his wife stabbed him: he was “bleeding out and going to die.” Duncan would not say where Ellis stabbed him or give his location.
Later an Enid Police Department officer made contact with Duncan at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid. The officer confirmed Duncan had been stabbed and cut.
District Attorney’s Investigator Steve Tanio conducted a post Miranda Rights interview with Ellis and photographed her.
Alva Police Officer Tim Clapp transported Ellis to Share Medical Center for a consensual blood draw and to the Woods County Jail where she was booked in.
A search warrant was obtained for the motel room. A bloody knife, bloody bedding and a tooth were recovered from the room. Alva Police Officers Ron Vasquez and Jack Heil collected and photographed evidence from the room and transported it to the police department.
On Jan. 24, Lindsay Anne Ellis, 41, of Andover, Kansas, was charged in Woods County with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a felony. She is accused of using a large kitchen knife to repeatedly stab Duncan Ellis about the torso.
This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years in the penitentiary or one year in the county jail.
With her bond set at $25,000, Ellis is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 8.
