SEARCY, Ark. – Northwestern returned to action Thursday evening as they opened their two game road trip to Arkansas falling 61-39 to Harding. The Bisons used a 12-2 run in the opening quarter to push in front of the Rangers and not trail after the Lady Rangers early 2-0 lead.
Northwestern falls to 10-7 on the season with a 6-5 conference record as Harding improves to 11-5 on the year with a 7-5 conference record.
Scout Frame led the team with 11 points followed by Carly Craig and Camille Thomas with 7. Thomas went 7-8 at the free throw line. S. Frame led the team in both steals and rebounds at 3 and 11 each. This marks Frame's third double-double of the year.
First Quarter
It was a slow start for the Lady Rangers and the Lady Bison from the tip-off. A defensive rebound by Carly Craig and made lay-up by Bailey Brown started the scoring for Northwestern off with a two-point lead at 2-0. The momentum started to change almost halfway through the quarter after two free throws were made by The Lady Bison to give the home team their first lead of the game. Kinsey Neiderer and Scout Frame responded with a rebound and a steal. Despite the Lady Ranger's efforts, The Lady Bison went on a 16-0 point run. S. Frame broke the run with a made free throw. S. Frame would continue to fight back, making two more free throws late in the quarter. The Lady Rangers were down 19-5 at the quarter end. Senior S. Frame led the Rangers with three in this quarter.
Second Quarter
A quick layup from S. Frame would start the Lady Rangers out in the second quarter of play. Andi Pierce would contribute to The Rangers by making two free throws early in the quarter. The Lady Bison fought back with a made jump shot and steal. Craig responded by sinking a three-pointer with an assist from Josena Frame. The Rangers would go on a 9-1 to close the quarter. Yet Harding prevailed leading 30-18 over Northwestern at the break.
Third Quarter
The Bison came out strong after the half with two made layups. The Lady Rangers would respond with a layup by J. Frame and a defensive rebound by Neiderer leading to Northwestern points. After the teams went back and forth following missed shots leading to a two minute scoring drought. The Bisons would score a layup on a fast break two of their 17 fast break points in the game. Bailey Brown fought back with a block before coming down with an offensive rebound on the other end of the floor. Craig would add to the fight with another made layup. Brown fouled out with six points around two minutes left in the quarter. Two made free throws by Camille Thomas and a steal would push the Lady Rangers into the last quarter trailing 47-28.
Fourth Quarter
The Lady Bison struck first in the fourth following an offensive rebound leading to a putback layup. J. Frame and Craig responded with an offensive rebound leading to a Craig jumper. The Lady Bison extended their lead with a steal and a fastbreak layup. Thomas would respond by adding four made free-throws. Aubrey Ritter would sink a layup to close the game. The Lady Rangers fell to the Lady Bison 61-39.
The Lady Rangers were back in action in Arkansas traveling to Russellville to face Arkansas Tech on Saturday.
