In Ezekiel, chapters 25 through 48, he continues the prophecy of God. In the first few chapters, Ezekiel is warning the Israelites what to expect if they do not repent and return to doing God’s will. The last few chapters are a warning of things to come to those nations which have taken advantage of Israel during the time of their exile.
The theme of the book is the same though. God tells Ezekiel to tell Israel and several other nations His prophecies so when they come true, “then they shall know that I am the Lord.” He wants His chosen people to return to Him. He also wants all people to know He is the one true God. “I will sanctify My great name, and the nations shall know that I am the Lord.”
The last few chapters give measurements and instruction for a bigger and better temple than the one built by Solomon which was destroyed. This temple was never built, the people never returned to Him as He wanted. Ezekiel was telling Israel a vision God had for them, not a prophecy to be fulfilled. The people rejected the vision.
In Ezekiel 34 there is a phrase that inspired a hymn that we still sing today, “there shall be showers of blessing.” Also, in chapter 34 God says “I Myself will seek out my sheep and deliver them….and they shall know that I, the Lord their God am with them.” God makes several “I will and I am” statements in this chapter. His intentions are clear.
There is no doubt that the Lord loves His people. He is trying so hard to get them to return to Him. His message was for those specific people that God told him to address. The lesson for us today is that God will do what He says He will do, He has high expectations for His people. He also has great rewards for His people. There shall be showers of blessing.
