I hope everyone is having fun at the car show

There have been plenty of activities to go around.

I meant to mention 9/11 last week and my mind wandered away. I could have never given the story the justice that Marione did in the Sept. 8 Newsgram. I was pretty much teared after reading and remembering that day.

Thursday, I hauled a load to Ponca City to promote my economy. There are three kinds of Ponca trips. One is an uneventful ride over and back with timely unloading and driving. The second is the trip from hell. Whatever can go wrong does. Fortunately, we haven't had one of them in quite a while. Lastly are the special trips that not only does everything go well, but there is entertainment and stories to be had.

Thursday started with tire problems on the way over, but turned into entertainment coming back. A motor home passed me as I was driving merrily along at 45 mph. The trailer behind it had a nice '57 Chevy on it. I couldn't run fast enough to catch it, but when I got to Medford, there it was. The guy was from the Oregon-Washington area, and was traveling the country. The '57 Chevy was his transportation. It was a very nice example of an unrestored two door hardtop car with about 80,000 miles on it. The engine and transmission were modernized to make it trouble-free.

He had been in the funeral home and cemetery business to make his fortune. Like a lot of guys, after a few years of retirement, he had gotten into another business venture, with some kind of underground cable business. He was pretty neat to visit with. I was surprised when he asked me about my load of cans. He said he noticed me when I was coming into town loaded. I gave him a car show flier and promoted all the things to do in this area, but don't know if he stopped or not.

The second man I met at Medford was a man of God with a team of mules and two wagons. More about him next week.

Around the first of September I developed a kidney stone, my first in 73 years. They gave me some medicine and told me this too would pass. I never felt it pass, but after a few days I quit hurting so bad.

A week ago, in the middle of the night, the stabbing pain in my kidney was back. A trip to the emergency room and CT scan confirmed I either had the same one, or a new one. The scan reader said there was one larger one and lots of smaller ones. I thought this was cool, that my stone had babies. It took about four days, and it passed. I am not going to relate how much fun passing it was.

They are going to analyze it to see what I have to give up to not make more. I hope the results say hard work and lobster are out, because I could make it without either.

I may need to update my shaving lotion. I was putting on some Aqua Velva shaving lotion, and noticed it was so old that the bottle didn't have a bar code on it.

Let's all be safe out there and God bless one and all.
