Goltry man dies in collision

A Goltry man died of injuries from a two-vehicle collision Monday morning. Rustin Jack Sturgeon, 59, of Goltry, was pronounced dead at the scene by Alfalfa County EMS.

The wreck occurred at 8:18 a.m. on County Road 720 and Caddo Road in Alfalfa County approximately a mile south of Goltry.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Sturgeon was driving a 1969 Chevrolet truck eastbound on Caddo Road. Jackie Lynn Adkins, 74, of Ringwood, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on County Road 720. Sturgeon failed to yield at the uncontrolled intersection, striking the Adkins vehicle. Sturgeon was ejected an unknown distance from the vehicle.

Adkins was transported by Alfalfa County EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid where he was admitted in stable condition with internal trunk injuries. Neither of the drivers was wearing a seatbelt, and the 1969 vehicle was not equipped with seatbelts.

Trooper Matthew Wilczek investigated, assisted by Trooper Kyle Rosine and Trooper Darrin Lancaster. The Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office, Alfalfa County EMS and Goltry Fire Department also assisted.
