The LoneStar OHCE group met at the Waynoka Library on Monday, Aug. 10, with Angela Pearson as hostess and Jessica Hanks as co-hostess.
The meeting was called to order by President Paula McMurphy, beginning with the flag salute and a devotion read by Pearson from the King James Version of Isaiah 54:10. Roll call was taken by asking "How has social media affected your life?" Members attending were: Cleta Bell Zook, Pearson, McMurphy, Hanks, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Shanks, and Lisa Higgins. Secretary Jillian York was absent, so minutes from last meeting were not read. Shanks stepped in for Jane Adair, treasurer, with the treasurer's report. All were read and approved.
Old Business: The Woods County Fair board made a decision to cancel the indoor activates and OHCE, Open and 4-H projects for this year. The superintendents were concerned they would not have helpers and concerned about finding judges for the divisions. LoneStar discussed this matter and are in hopes their projects will follow through to next year for the 2021 fair.
New Business: President McMurphy reported that the nap mat pillow cases made for the new Waynoka Daycare have been delivered. Alisha Allison had asked if the group would be interested in making them as a project. The Lone Star made 20 cases out of bed sheets donated by Allison along with fabric they provided. Hanks and McMurphy represented the group at the daycare, having a picture taken with the Director Allison and the employees of the daycare.
Hanks gave the lesson on "How has social media affected your life?" The topic was very interesting and members discussed the concern they have with social media being a big part of their daily lives now. Following the lesson Pearson served delicious refreshments and the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, with Shanks as hostess and Hannah Kimbro as co-hostess.
