I met a nice lady, Kohannah Hess, at Wal-Mart that said the Goldbug Gulp and Gallop is alive and well again this year. They would like a call at 327-1647, to know how many meals to prepare, but you can get a meal without a call. You can pick up the meals in the circle drive at Washington School between noon and 1 p.m. Please parents, get your children a free meal. This will last into July. Thanks to the volunteers for doing this. She also told me she works with the Salvation Army helping with bills and other expenses. Give her a call if you are in trouble.
What a week! Memorial Day and weekend was good all around, I think. Cleo and I went out to the cemetery Saturday to decorate the graves. Sure glad I had her along, because she remembers where everyone is at; me, not so much.
I usually run into someone I know, but haven't seen for a long time. There was a trader/car buff named Cecil Thompson I used to know, and I ran into his daughter, Beverly. She was married to a classmate that passed away a while back, Nelson Allen. Nice lady.
We've missed several good chances to have bad weather, and that's okay too.
More places are opening up all the time. Let's support them as much as possible. The only ones that probably won't get much business from me are beauty shops. Nobody is talented enough to make me look good. Anyhow, good luck to everyone that is open again, and employees that have jobs.
I hope not too many people have starved-out, or face eviction because of the ineptness of the unemployment services in our state. Just saying, but why is it these government places function kinda okay in normal times, but when the pressure is on fold like a cheap card table? I still remember the way our government handled the Katrina flooding.
I see where people behind on their rent in Oklahoma City are going to be subject to evictions. While I feel sorry for the owners, I do think if the renters are NBDB's (Natural Born Dead Beats), out they should go. If they are behind by no fault of their own, call "The Donald" and tell him to help these people out by guaranteeing the rent and bills until they can get back to work. What a novel idea! Actually spending the country broke helping the helpless instead of his wealthy buddies.
At the grocery store I saw $8 a pound hamburger. Someone said an entire meat cutting crew tested positive for the virus. Put them all back to work until they get sick. If they all have it, they aren't infecting each other, and I cook my food dead, so they won't infect me, or break me from high costs.
Lastly, I see where the city has a $2 million deficit. Someone high up in the Alva food chain has been robbing Peter to pay Paul, and that makes Peter real sore. I don't know about the legalities of all this, but a couple things come to mind. The city has asked for a line of credit. It is a good tool, but should not be used to make up a deficit. Someone said they were diverting airport funds. Isn't the FAA federal? Whoops. I saw where someone even suggested the fix was in on the pool money. With an open checkbook the money could have been diverted to cover other shortages. I don't know what is true and what is not, but there are a lot of questions left unanswered. Not that it will happen, but if the mayor is hauled off in handcuffs, I think the next in line for his job is the City Marshal. I could use the boost in pay.
My friend Bubba, looking across her garden, asked the neighbor lady what she was growing next year. Her reply? "Older and crankier!"
Let's all be safe out there, and God bless one and all.
