Grow and Share OHCE group met on Tuesday, April 21, by Zoom at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. and all members recited the flag salute. All present recited the flag salute. Thirteen members present answered roll call to: "How are you coping with Covid-19?" Shannon McDaniel was a guest. Minutes for the March meeting were approved and the treasurer's report was given. A thank you note was received from the Northwestern Foundation for a scholarship donation.
The group received two thank you's for scholarship donation. Communications were also received from Susan Holliday, OHCE Extension Educator on determining how many face masks each OHCE group had donated; and, she also provided information on a "texting for health" program called Live Healthy/Live Well. Members were asked to contact Susan if they were interested in this program. The last communication from Susan requested pots be donated and volunteers work at the Community Garden at the Homestead.
Under the Resource Management Committee report, the group discussed Earth Day occurring on April 22. JoDe gave information on her Facebook post about Earth Day requesting individuals to plant trees, shrubs or flowers and to post pictures of the plantings. She asked group members to share. Proclamations on Earth Day were developed and taken to the City of Alva Council meeting and to the Woods County Commissioners meeting. Christi stated that the Earth Day poster contest for fifth graders at Lincoln Elementary is being handled virtually on Google Classroom. The fifth grade teachers have assigned this as an optional enrichment activity . JoDe volunteered to provide Menagerie passes to all participants. Cash prizes for winners will be the same as last year. Christi will email entries to club members so that judging can occur.
Unfinished business included a discussion of several events that have been postponed including Chocolate Fantasy and the Nescatunga Arts Festival. OHCE Week was discussed with the group deciding to have their regular May meeting on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. as a Zoom meeting. A special touch would be for each member to have their favorite soft drink to drink as the meeting occurs – a Virtual Happy Hour Soda Date.
There was no new business to discuss. The meeting ended with a devotional by Carol E. She read Psalm 118:26-29, verses that seem especially appropriate during this time.
