A Lamont man died Saturday from injuries sustained when the vehicle he was riding in hit cattle in the roadway. Britton Lane Stacy, 22, of Lamont, died at 4:18 p.m. Saturday at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
The collision occurred at 6 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, on State Highway 74 just north of the Salt Fork River bridge, which is one-half mile north of the town of Salt Fork in Grant County. The location is south and west of Lamont.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Stacy was a passenger in a 2003 Lincoln LS four-door driven by Bryson Cole Holeman, 22, of Lamont. The vehicle was northbound on SH-74 just north of the Salt Fork River bridge and struck cattle in the roadway then continued for 138 feet before departing the roadway to the right. The vehicle went off the roadway for 158 feet before coming to rest upright in the ditch.
Stacy was transported by Miller EMS of Medford to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid and later transported by Miller EMS to OU Medical Center. He was admitted for head and trunk internal injuries in critical condition, later dying of his injuries.
Holeman was transported by Miller EMS to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid where he was admitted for a head injury and listed in stable condition.
The highway patrol report lists the cause of the collision as unsafe speed for weather conditions (foggy), and the driver is listed as having impaired ability due to drinking. The driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger was not.
