Seventeen members of the Cherokee High School FCCLA chapter traveled to Fairview on Dec. 11 to compete in the FCCLA North-1 District STAR Events. All 17 members from Cherokee who competed placed first, second or third.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:
• Cooperative – teams work to accomplish specific goals;
• Individualized – an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals;
• Competitive – individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.
Moving on to Regionals in Oklahoma City in February are Elizabeth Fletcher, Raylen Weve, Hope Jordan, Cherish Reeves, Taryn Miller, Gracie Leslie, Korey Dooley, Brant Failes, Abby Guffy, Madison Wheeler, Bridget Wilhite, Hailey Hackett, Ruston James and Lexi Williams.
Bridget Wilhite, North-1 vice-president of membership, and Taryn Miller, North-1 vice-president of community service, helped facilitate the events and present awards during the awards ceremony.
