ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers softball is just around the corner. As the fall season has ended, the Rangers are working hard to start off the 2020 season off right with off-season workouts and spring season quickly arriving after the university's Christmas break. The Black and Red will be coming off a 9-43 record, with a 9-35 mark in Great American Conference play. Northwestern has sights set on a fresh start to the program with the release of the 2020 season schedule early this week.
The Rangers will open their season with back-to-back home games against out-of-conference opponents in Southwest Baptist and Newman University. The doubleheaders will take place on Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 respectively, with first pitches thrown at 2 and 4 p.m.
Following the two home games, the Black and Red will travel and play four games at the Midwestern State Tournament in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Feb. 14 and 15 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., followed shortly by a rematch doubleheader against Newman on Feb. 18.
Northwestern begins conference play on Feb. 21 and 22 as they host Oklahoma Baptist University for a four-game series at Ranger softball field. The Black and Red will continue their home stint as they host a tough Southern Arkansas opponent during the last weekend of February.
After an away trip to Arkansas-Monticello March 6 and 7, Northwestern returns to Ranger softball field for the first weekend of spring break as they host Henderson State University. A mid-week doubleheader against Fort Hays University on Tuesday will round out the six-game home streak.
The Rangers will take on the 2019 conference tournament champions, Arkansas Tech, on the first weekend of April, and will face another notable opponent in the 2019 runner-up Southeastern Oklahoma State on April 17 and 18.
The Black and Red will host half of their four-game series against long-time rivals in Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday, March 24 and the other half will be played on April 14.
The regular season will end on April 24 and 25 as the Rangers head out of town to face Southern Nazarene for their final four-game conference series.
There are 56 total games on the 2020 schedule with an even split of 28 home games and 28 away games.
The GAC tournament will be held in Bentonville, Arkansas, from April 30 to May 2.
