The Northwestern Rangers were riding high Saturday afternoon as they defeated longtime rival Southwestern Oklahoma State 28-16 at Ranger Field. It was a great way for the Ranger seniors to end their season.
The scoring was close in the first half with NWOSU leading 7-6 at the end of the first period, and SWOSU pulling ahead 16-14 at the half. But the Rangers didn't allow the Bulldogs across the goal line in the second half while scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter.

SWOSU was third and six as the second quarter began. Following an incomplete pass, the Rangers forced a fumble on the fourth down but Bowen recovered. The ball went to Northwestern on their 38. After losing ten yards on the first play, Tanner Clarkson passed to Kentrez Bell but SWOSU was called for pass interference moving the Rangers to the Southwestern 13. The Rangers attempted a field goal from the 48 when their drive stalled, but it went wide to the left. However, in the final seconds of the quarter, Buchanan was able to score on a 27 yard field goal for the Bulldogs. SWOSU led 16-14 at the half.
The Rangers scored about halfway into the third quarter on a Clarkson pass to Kenny Miller for 13 yards. The O'Neal kick was good and the Rangers pulled ahead 21-16. With two minutes left in the quarter, Northwestern scored again on a Clarkson 25 yard run to culminate a nine play, 93 yard drive. The extra point was good, and NWOSU was up 28-16.
