Rangers volleyball snatches final away game in Ada

ADA, Okla.–Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball had their final away match against East Central after a stellar week with three different Player of the Week honors. The Rangers made quick work of the Tigers with a sweep in three sets [25-15, 25-21, 25-16]. The Black and Red improved their record to a program best 22-9, 11-3 in the Great American Conference. East Central’s record dropped to 2-28, 1-14 in the GAC.

After a stellar week last week Kiauna Clark continued to excel with a team leading nine kills, five blocks, and a hit percentage of .300. Kaydee Honeycutt and Kate Deterding followed close behind with eight kills each. Jennifer Eubanks tallied seven kills and three blocks, and the highest hit percentage with .375. Kaitlyn Robinson led the team with 23 of the 35 assists and Sydnee Miller tallied a team high 14 digs.

Northwestern entered the first set on fire with a 7-1 run from the beginning of the match with three of those points stemming from blocks. The Rangers out blocked their opponent 10 to the Tigers five. The Black and Red also dominated in service aces with seven to East Central’s zero.

A seven-point run extended the Rangers lead 21-7. East Central did not roll over easily, however, as they were able to tally a few more points to reach 15, but a final slam from Deterding finalized the game in the Ranger’s favor. They took the match 25-15.

The Tigers rallied back on the second set. Northwestern was able to stay just ahead of East Central through the first half but did not shake them until about halfway through. A four-point run from the Black and Red allowed them to pull away just enough to hold off the Tiger onslaught. Honeycutt finalized the match with a kill to take the set 25-21.

The Rangers used their momentum from the second set and came out strong in the early parts of the third set. Tough serving from Abby Davis, with two service aces, gave the Black and Red a six-point run and a 13-5 lead. Tiger attack errors turned out to be the deciding factors of the third. Five straight points ended the set at 25-16 and gave Northwestern the match 3-0.

The Rangers are scheduled to return to Percefull Fieldhouse for their final home game of the 2019 regular season. This rematch against GAC opponent Oklahoma Baptist will take place on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and will be the deciding factor on the GAC regular season champion.
