Volleyball Set to Close Out Regular Season

SHAWNEE – Entering the week in pole position to claim the program's first-ever No. 1-seed for the Great American Conference Tournament, Oklahoma Baptist volleyball is set to close out the regular season against Southeastern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Bison will close out their home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 12 against the Savage Storm at 5:30 PM inside Mabee Arena at the Noble Complex. Oklahoma Baptist then travels to Alva for a big showdown against the Rangers. In conjunction with Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child, and OBU women's basketball, the volleyball team will be hosting a Girls' Night on Tuesday. Any fan that brings a "WOW" item such as a stuffed animal, doll or backpack will gain free tickets to both the volleyball match at 5:30 PM and the women's basketball game at 7:30 PM. Boasting a 23-5 overall record, including a 12-2 mark in GAC action, OBU can claim their first outright regular-season title with two wins this week. The Bison are averaging 13.29 kills/set while swinging a GAC-best .223. Malia Leatherland paces the OBU offense with 3.78 kills/set, followed by Hayley Daniel at 2.93 kills/set. Rylen Moore and Kaylee Buell have kept the offense humming, combining for 12.32 assists/set. Defensively, opponents have struggled to terminate the ball as the Bison have posted a league-best .139 hitting percentage. Averaging 17.73 digs/set, OBU is led by Diana Carranza's 4.94 digs/set and Daniel's 3.25 digs/set. At the net, Julia Brinton and Audrey Poupard are combining for 1.88 blocks/set. Southeastern is 3-23 overall, but enter Tuesday's match coming off a 3-0 sweep of East Central. The Savage Storm average 10.26 kills/set, led by Aleksandra Rodic's 2.50. Caitlin Cosby has a team-high 5.12 digs/set, but opponents are averaging 11.67 kills/set. Northwestern owns a 21-9 record and is OBU's primary challenger for the top spot in the final standings at 11-3 in the GAC. The Rangers have laid down 11.93 kills/set, including 4.50 kills/set from Kaydee Honneycutt and 3.11 from Kiauna Clark. Defensively, Sydnee Miller leads Northwestern with a 5.15 digs/set average. Opponents own a plus-1.27 kills/set margin against the Northwestern.
