COVINGTON, Wash. (AP) — The pilot of a small plane that went down in a lake near Covington was rescued by kayakers.
KIRO-TV reports the plane crashed into Lake Morton shortly before noon Monday.
The King County Sheriff's Office says witnesses saw a plane with no engine crash into the middle of the lake.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was rescued by neighbors using kayaks, Mountain View Fire said.
The man in his 30s was conscious and had no significant injuries, expect possible hypothermia, fire officials said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
It appeared one of the plane's wings was separated from the fuselage.
The plane is sinking. A King County marine unit is responding.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Bureau will investigate the cause of the crash.
