HSU's Shapiro Earns GAC Golfer of the Week Honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — After helping lead Henderson State to victory at the Battle for the Belt, Reddies' senior Nick Shapiro was named Great American Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Shapiro was 2-under for three rounds of play at the medal match play event, and shot a 4-under 68 in the championship round to help Henderson defeat St. Edward's 4-1 and claim the tournament crown. He finished in second place overall.

The native of Plano, Texas, ended the fall season as the Reddies' leader in stroke average (71.77) and shot six rounds under par in 13 total rounds played. Shapiro has two Top-10 finishes this year and tied the school record for score on a Par 72 course with an 8-under 64 in September.

The Reddies return to action on Feb. 17-18 when they travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina to play at the Newberry College Invitational.
