SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer team went toe-to-toe in a wild match-up with the Harding Bisons on Thursday evening, but a pair of late goals from teh visitors sunk OBU as they fell 4-2 in their conference opener.
OBU held a 26-14 advantage in shots including a 10-7 mark in shots on target. The Bison also dominated corner kicks in the match, holding an 11-1 advantage on te night.
The Bison got on the board first in the eighth minute as Herbert Lima found a 2 on 1 situation and found a cross into the box to a streaking Dominic Gibson who finished low far post for a 1-0 lead.
Harding struck back in the 14th minute as Jack Savage fired home a cross to even the score at one. OBU proceeded to absolutely dominate possession for the rest of the half, out shooting Harding 16-8, but could not push back ahead going into the break.
In the second half, a tackle in the box resulted in a penalty for Harding as Christian Ramos finished off the PK to make it a 2-1 game.
OBU scratched and clawed to find an equalizer to no avail until later in the second half. A corner kick was flicked on by Greyson Sykes and found the foot of Carlos Felgueroso who finished in the 78th minute to even the game at two a piece.
However, Harding pushed ahead in the 88th minute from Peter Hmung in the middle of the box. The Bisons took a counter in the 90th minute to add one more insurance goal to make it a 4-2 final.
The Bison move to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the GAC. They will look to rebound at home on Saturday afternoon as they welcome in Ouachita for 1 pm kick-off.
