August meeting of the Grow and Share OHCE group

Grow and Share OHCE group met on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Fireside Room at the Cherokee Strip Museum with Colleen Myers serving as hostess. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. and all members recited the flag salute. Sixteen members and one guest, Dora Fogelstrom, answered roll call to, “What is your favorite Oklahoma dish?” The treasurer's report was given. There were no communications received during the past month.

Under committees, Janet Cunningham reminded members to collect printer cartridges for recycling as part of our Resource Management Committee goals. She will prepare a box to collect cartridges at the Woods County Fair and Christi will prepare a poster.

Under unfinished business, Kim Jones reported that she had attended two workshops on Grilling presented by Extension Educator Susan Holiday. The items presented in the newsletter were discussed. Toiletry items donated by members have been delivered to the Waynoka facility.

Under new business, the group voted to set 6:30 p.m. at the regular meeting time with changes when necessary. Carol McDaniel volunteered to attend the pie sale committee meeting to be held at noon on Aug. 19. Also, Carol and Amanda Jones agreed to provide the two additional pies for the pie sale. Jean Moore is planning to attend the cake decorating workshop to be held in Alfalfa County on August 17 and she is also planning to enter the chili cook-off at the fair.

Colleen gave a lesson on “Oklahoma Dishes.” All continuing members provided a mini-lesson on the Woods County Fair to our five new members. Club booth entry forms were completed and a list of each member's open class items was compiled. Krystenna Womack and Carol McDaniel volunteered to attend the next leader's training. Pennies and nickels were collected and secret pal gifts were exchanged. Mary Hamilton will host the September meeting with the date to be determined.

Colleen served refreshments and the meeting adjourned to work on the group's project booth for the fair.
