Authorities: Man held woman at knifepoint, killed by police

POTEAU, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a man holding a woman at knifepoint was fatally shot by law enforcement officers in southeastern Oklahoma.

The OSBI says in a news release that the man was dead at the scene of the shooting early Tuesday at a convenience store in Poteau, about 165 miles (266 kilometers) southeast of Oklahoma City.

No names have been released.

The OSBI says a Poteau police officer and a Le Flore County sheriff's deputy responding to a 911 call about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday found the man holding the woman, a store clerk, at knifepoint inside the store and each fired one shot when the man refused to drop the knife and release the clerk.

The OSBI said the man's body was turned over to the state medical examiner's office
