FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s and women’s golf teams took part in the 36-hole Hardscrabble Invitational the past two days in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the Hardscrabble Country Club.
The Northwestern golfers will have a short week as they begin the final tournament of the season Sunday at the Great American Conference Championships in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Rylie Eller had the story of the tournament for the Northwestern teams as she set a new school record with a three-round total of 234 with consistent scores of 76, 79 and 79, passing the previous mark of 235 held by Kelsi Wilson at the 2018 GAC Championships.
Eller was tied for the third most birdies in the tournament with six.
The Ranger women finished in seventh place, 31 strokes better than the eighth place team from Texas A&M-International.
Ashley Watts added sub-80 rounds as she finished the tournament with a 240 total (82-79-79). Brittani Casement (87-80-86), Cassidy Pettigrew (86-89-79) and Nikkole Donk (77-84-96) all finished within fourth stokes each other as the event came to close.
Tyler Berryhill and Colton Person paced the Northwestern men with three-round scores of 227 each. Berryhill had an outstanding first day of the tournament with a 73 and 74, and closed the event with an 80 on Tuesday. Person opened the tournament with a first round 79 before signing cards of 74 in each of the final two rounds.
Person’s 227 was his best three-round total of the Spring by a 12-stroke difference.
Preston Ewing turned in a 74 in the first round of the tournament. He finished one shot behind his teammates with a 228 after posting rounds of 76 and 78 in the final 36 holes. Ben Baker (74-79-80) and Parker Rehorn (81-84-81) rounded out the Ranger men with a 233 and 246, respectively.
