Reddies' Bats Held in Check in 4-0 Loss to UT-Tyler

TYLER, Texas — UT-Tyler held Henderson State to just one hit on Tuesday night as the Reddies fell to the Patriots 4-0 in their first midweek contest of the season.

UT-Tyler scored one run in the first, third, fourth, and sixth inning in its season opener. However, the combined effort of the Patriots' pitching staff stole the show. The Patriots threw five hurlers at the Reddies, none of whom threw more than three innings. The five pitchers combined to allow just one hit and two walks.

The Reddies (3-3) also went deep into the bullpen, as six HSU pitchers tossed at least one inning. Brayden Bebee and Spencer Taack kept HSU in the contest with a scoreless seventh and eighth inning, respectively, but Henderson's lineup did not threaten down the stretch.

Of Henderson's best opportunities, the first came in the second inning. With HSU trailing 1-0, Joe Myers was hit by a pitch and advanced to third with no outs. Unfortunately, the Reddies were unable to bring Myers home, as UT-Tyler starter Austin Schneider struck out the next three batters to keep the Patriots in front, 1-0.

After UT-Tyler tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to make the score 2-0, Blake Wynn and Josh Aguilar led off the top of the fourth with back-to-back walks. Once again, however, HSU was unable to push any runs across and left the two runners stranded. Henderson put runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings as well but was unable to plate a run.

The Reddies will begin Great American Conference play this weekend when they welcome No. 13 Southern Arkansas to Clyde Berry Field for a Friday evening game at 6 p.m. and a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at 1 p.m.
