Muleriders unable to overcome slow start in loss to Oklahoma Baptist

Shawnee, Okla. – The SAU Women's Basketball team dropped their third game in Oklahoma this season with a 67-47 loss to Oklahoma Baptist in a game where the Bison jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never conceded the lead from that point onwards.

The Muleriders were able to hold Autumn Avina to eight points on the night; however, Avina also passed out 12 assists as Victoria Blankenship led all scorers with 20 points.

Freshman Ariana Guinn led the Muleriders on the score sheet, scoring 14 points on 5-6 shooting from the field. Guinn went 3-4 from the line, and made her sole three-point attempt in her first game back in two weeks.

Forwards Jerica Bell and Erin Brinkley both scored nine points on the night. Bell shot 3-12 from the field and went 3-6 from the line as the freshman also grabbed six rebounds, including four offensive, and recorded three steals. Brinkley grabbed a team-high nine rebounds as the Tyler, Texas native came one point and one rebound shy of a double-double.

Guard Brette Wacha was responsible for two of the Muleriders' three three-pointers on the night, going 2-8 from deep as the Muleriders only shot 18.8 percent (3-16) from behind the arc. Wacha also grabbed five rebounds in 24 minutes on the floor.

Senior Olivia McWilliams recorded a team-high four assists to go along with four points. Kylie Warren and Alyssa Crase both went 1-2 from the floor, recording two points; and Maggie Evans split her two attempts from the charity stripe and grabbed two rebounds as well as recording a block.

The Muleriders are now 2-15 on the season and 1-10 in conference play. They make the trip over to Bethany for a Saturday afternoon matchup against Southern Nazarene.
