Voter registration deadline is Jan. 18

Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the Feb. 12, 2019, special election for the Timberlake I-93 School District, Alfalfa County Election Board Secretary Kelly Stein said today.

The secretary of the Alfalfa County Election Board, Kelly Stein, said that it submits to the registered, qualified voters of the Timberlake I-93 School District a question of the issuance of two bonds.

Proposition One is for $1,635,000 for constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites.

Proposition Two is for $465,000 for transportation equipment.

Proposition One would be payable semi-annually and be due within five years. Proposition Two would be payable semi-annually and be due within five years.

The people qualified to vote in this special election are registered voters who live inside the geographical boundaries of the Timberlake I-93 School District. Precincts 120 (Byron Fire Dept./Community Building), 310 (Helena Senior Citizens Center), 320 (Goltry Community Building) and 330 (Jet Community Building) are involved in this election.

Stein said that people who are United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 18 years old may apply to become registered voters.

Those who aren’t registered or need to change their registration may apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight Friday, Jan. 18.

Stein said applications postmarked after that time will be accepted and processed, but not until after Feb. 12.

The county election board responds in writing to every person who submits an application for voter registration. The response is either a voter identification card listing the new voter's precinct number and polling place location or a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application for voter registration was not approved. Stein said any person who has submitted a voter registration application and who has not received a response within 30 days should contact the county election board office.
