Six Woods County 4-H Shooting Sports Members competed in the West District 4-H Contest on Dec. 8 at the Woodward County Fairgrounds.
In the air rifle competition, Thomas Mathes, Waynoka 4-H, was reserve champion in the intermediate age division.
In the Genesis bow competition, Nathan Andrews was reserve champion in the junior age division.
In the compound bow competition, senior age group, Logan Nusser placed third, Ethan Vaughn placed seventh and Austin Rankin placed eighth.
In the intermediate age group, Makinze Smith placed third.
Dustin Rankin, Woods County Shooting Sports leader, served as the certified leader for the archery contest portion of the event. There were 42 participants in the archery competition and 17 youth in the air rifle and air pistol competition from seven West District counties.
The 4-Hers have been practicing weekly since October.
"Dustin Rankin is the 4-H shooting sports leader for Woods County and has worked numerous hours to help coach and advise the youth in the shooting sports program," stated Greg Highfill, Woods County OSU Extension educator. He concluded "I am very proud of the training and skills 4-H members gain from the shooting sports program, plus they have worked very hard to proudly represent Woods County."
