CLAREMORE, Okla. – The visiting Henderson State Reddies pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 86-73 victory over the Rogers State women's basketball team on Wednesday afternoon at the Claremore Expo Center.
The Hillcats (2-3) took a slight 58-57 lead early in the fourth quarter on two free throws by Ke'Aunna Johnson, but the visiting Reddies outscored the navy and red 29-17 in the final stanza to get the 86-73 win.
After Lindsey Byfield closed the deficit to two points at 65-63 with a 3-pointer at the 7:06 mark, HSU hit back-to-back triples to push the margin to 71-63 with about six minutes remaining.
The Reddies held the edge for the rest of the period and extended the lead to 12 points on a three-point play from Hailey Estes with 1:22 on the clock for an 81-69 score. The final 86-73 was the largest lead of the game for the Reddies.
For the game, RSU shot 45.6 percent (26-57) from the field, but only 10 percent (1-10) from 3. In the fourth quarter, the Cats hit only 25 percent (4-16) of their shots. The Reddies finished at 50.8 percent (31-61) from the floor, including 71.4 percent (10-14) in the fourth quarter.
Lauren Schuldt posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for RSU. Azaria Floyd also registered 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Darian Jackson added 13 points, and Byfield came off the bench for 11 points. Five Hillcats totaled double figures as Alicia Brown went for 10 points.
Estes of HSU scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Four Reddies finished in double figures.
The Hillcats go on the road for their next two games. The stretch starts on Saturday at Oklahoma Baptist. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Live stats and live audio provided by the Hillcat Network will be available.
