I want to ask you an important question: “Who owns the future?” Adolph Hitler had the right answer. Supposedly Hitler made this statement: “The future is with those who are with the youth.” If he gave that answer, he gave the right answer. Many groups or people are battling for the minds of the youth. Whoever controls the minds of the youth today owns tomorrow.
That is why we are concerned about Christian education or education in general. We want to control the minds of the youth – not to indoctrinate them but to make them think.
Christ said some words that should cause us to shudder and to do some serious thinking about the importance of education. Christ said, “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation” (Matthew 12:43-45). Christ was trying to make a point. If the people did not take Christian education seriously, they would find themselves worse off than if they had not heard His teaching.
We must take Christian education seriously and make sure that parents have their children in youth group, devotions, Bible studies and church. Tomorrow belongs to the Christians who take seriously God’s word and make sure the younger generation knows it well.
