MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team scored an impressive 3-1 victory over visiting Lyon College Tuesday evening.
The Blossoms now stand at 5-22 on the season while the Scots drop to 15-13.
UAM pummeled Lyon in the opening set, taking a 25-8 win behind MarKayla Dickie's five kills while Leslie Polano added four more.
The teams played evenly in the early going of the second set, eventually playing to a 6-6 tie. From there, however, the Blossoms took control of the match behind a 7-2 run that put them in front to stay. The Scots would eventually fight back to draw within one point at 16-15 following an ace from Katelyn Richbourg. Another spurt, this time 9-3, put the Blossoms over the top and gave the squad a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Lyon led most of the way in the third set. After falling behind 18-10, UAM mounted a furious comeback. The team put together a 9-1 run capped by an ace from Madisson Williams to knot the score at 19, but it would prove as close as UAM would come in the set. The Scots rode a 6-2 run to take the win 25-21.
UAM would not be denied in the fourth and deciding frame. The Blossoms held a 20-10 lead following three straight errors from the visitors and coasted in for the 25-15 victory in the final stanza.
Polanco and Halli Lambert tallied 12 kills apiece in the match to lead both teams. Shayna Daniels added 34 assists for the Blossoms.
Lyon was paced by Michayla Shanks' five kills.
The Blossoms return to action on Friday evening at home against Southern Arkansas.
