A Woods County warrant has been issued for an Alva man on a felony firearms charge. Samuel Lee Garrett, 49, has been charged with feloniously pointing a firearm. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for one to ten years.
According to court documents, on Aug. 29, about 10:18 p.m. Alva Police Officer William Shahan was dispatched to the 1000 block of Barnes Street for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. He spoke to Latasha Beebe and Derrick Province who said Anita Tucker and Samuel Garrett came to the residence and tried to force their way inside. They reported Garrett pulled a gun on them and then left in a truck.
Officer Sean Farris called to say he located Garrett at his residence. He said Garrett said he drove Tucker to the residence but stayed in the truck and waited. Shahan went to Garrett’s residence. According to the affidavit, Garrett said Tucker asked his help to go and get her belongings, but he waited in the pickup. He said he did not own a pistol as described by Province. However, he said his wife and daughter had pistols that are kept locked in a safe he can’t get into because he is a felon and cannot touch the pistols.
Shahan asked to look at the pistols. Garrett’s wife showed them two pistols that did not match the description given by by Province and Beebe.
Officer Shahan spoke to Tucker on the phone and asked her to come to the Garrett residence. She did and answered questions. She said Garrett went to the residence, and when Province opened the door Garrett pushed the door trying to get in so Tucker could get her stuff. She said when Beebe yelled she was calling the cops, they left.
Shahan asked Tucker if there was a gun involved. She said she did not see one. When Shahan asked if Garrett owned a pistol, she said he carries one in his pickup for protection.
Shahan went back to Garrett’s residence and asked him about the differences in his story and Tucker’s. When Shahan asked what he would find if he got a search warrant for the residence and truck. Garrett yelled he would go get what Shahan was looking for. He went to the garage where he retrieved a black Taurus 9mm pistol from a tool box.
