ALVA, Okla. – With the Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s and women’s cross country season jump starts Saturday morning at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Open, the programs are proud to announce the incoming class of runners.
Head coach Jill Lancaster and assistant coach Brock Hime are excited about the future of the NWOSU cross country program as the newcomers will join forces with a solid group of veterans to continue to advance the team’s goals.
On the women’s side of the roster, four Ranger runners come from the junior college ranks, including Jessalyn Rivet-Tissot, a native of Sees, France, who was at Johnson County Community College (Kansas), while Crystal Castillo (Dodge City, Kansas), Kylee Isbell (Cordell, Oklahoma) and Claire Theis (Kingman, Kansas) were members of the Dodge City Community College team.
The three runners from DCCC joins the Northwestern squad with National Junior College Athletic Association postseason meet experience.
Local standout Ladasheray Bell of Alva looks to continue to grow her resume in a Ranger uniform after becoming an All-State runner in cross country in the fall and a state champion sprinter in the spring.
One of the first to join the new class of freshmen was Camille Lear from Tahlequah. The freshman class will also feature Jean Dodds of Enid, Stephanie Salgado from Laverne, Lashayla Gree of Canton and Journey LeBeau from Riverton, Wyoming.
Nine Additions to Men’s Roster
The men’s cross country team will see nine new members enter the season, two of which came to NWOSU as transfers. Garrison Blanton made the move to Northwestern after a stint at Cowley County Community College (Kansas), and Bryce Koenig comes via Dodge City Community College. Both runners have experience at the NJCAA regional and national meets.
Joining the experienced runners, both Ranger returners and transfers, are seven freshmen looking to make an impact. Freshman runners include: Jose Amador, Hooker; Noble Buckhaults, Buffalo; Christopher Chauncey, Cordell; Devin Clemente, Ringwood; Bryan Francis, Tahlequah; Cody Schmidt, Corn; Jeremy Williams, Forgan.
Multiple runners joining the men’s program competed at high levels both in cross country and in their respective track and field seasons, including state meet performances. The coaching staff has been pleased with the work the runners have been doing so far in the fall as many are working to improve times while running longer distances at the collegiate level.
