Tigers Roar Past Cotton Blossoms

ARKADELPHIA, Ark – Ouachita 3, Monticello 0

The Ouachita Tigers defeated the Monticello Cotton Blossoms in straight sets Tuesday night, 3-0. The undefeated Tigers improve to 9-0 on the season, as well as 1-0 in the Great American Conference.

Set one found the closest match up between the two teams, finishing in the favor of the Tigers 25-18. Although it began as a close match, Ouachita closed out the set with five straight points to gain the advantage moving forward.

For the second set, the Monticello tied Ouachita at 4 apiece before the Tigers went on an 11-2 run to put them up 15-6. From there, the Tigers would not surrender the lead and closed out the set 25-12.

The third set saw Ouachita in its prime as they hit .406% and forced the Cotton Blossoms to a -.083 hitting percentage. The Tigers victory was never in question as they only allowed 6 points to be gained by Monticello. Two surges of a 9-1 run to begin the match and a 13-1 run to finish the job ensured the victory for Ouachita.

Stormi Leonard, Adrianna Nolly, and Julianna Mack led the Tigers to their first GAC victory with 28 assists, 10 kills, and 13 digs respectively.

After nine straight wins in a row, the Tigers will look to grow that record this weekend with four games against St. Edward's University, Northwest Missouri State University, Newman University, and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith as they travel to Wichita, Kansas, this weekend for the Newman Invitational Thursday through Saturday.
