Hillcats Use Early Goals to Earn 3-0 Win over Rockhurst

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team scored two goals in the first 27 minutes en route to a 3-0 victory over Rockhurst on Tuesday (Sept. 4) at Soldier Field. With the victory, the navy and red moved to 2-0-0 early in the 2018 campaign and won their 10-straight nonconference contest.

Sophomore forward Hannah Mushisky tallied the game-winning goal, her first of the season, in the 18th minute of the contest as she took the ball away from a Rockhurst defender and powered her way to the goal for the early 1-0 edge.

After a foul in the box, senior midfielder Eva Madarang registered her team-leading second goal of the season and doubled the Hillcat advantage to 2-0 with a penalty kick goal in the 27th minute.

RSU held the 2-0 lead after the first half, and tallied eight shots and six shots on goal in the first 45 minutes compared to only four shots for RU as the Cats controlled play.

Senior Marlaina Trahant added to the RSU scoring with her first goal of the season in the 90th minute. Trahant knocked in a loose ball in front of the goal for the 3-0 margin.

After totaling 11 shutouts in 2017, senior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent got her first clean sheet of the 2018 season. She made five saves in 90 minutes to move to 2-0-0 on the season.

Rockhurst's goalkeeper Megan Meyers posted nine saves, but allowed the three goals in 90 minutes.

For the game, RSU totaled a 17-12 advantage in shots, including a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Mushisky and reserve freshman forward Laurelle Theodore registered three shots with two shots on goal.
