Under the guidance of Dr. Tom Carr, the Barber County 4-H meat judging teams competed at the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Aug. 19.
The intermediate team of Callan Smith, Easton Rector, Hudson Rector and Jack Schreiner won the Overall Intermediate Team Championship. Big congratulations are due to the boys, as this was their first time competing as the intermediate team. In addition, they also won the placings, retail ID, and were second in the questions portion of the contest. Individual (overall) placings were: Callan Smith fourth, Hudson Rector fifth, Easton Rector sixth and Jack Schreiner eighth. In the placings portion of the contest, Easton Rector placed eighth and Hudson Rector was ninth. In Retail ID, Callan Smith placed second, Hudson Rector fifth, Easton Rector sixth, and Jack Schreiner seventh. Callan Smith also placed second in the questions portion of the contest.
The team of Chloe Blunk, Sterling Rector, Rhyan Marshall and Camryn Smith placed third overall in the senior division. This was quite an accomplishment considering Marshall and Smith were competing in the senior division as under aged members. They would normally compete in the intermediate division. The team also won placings, were second in reasons and fourth in retail ID. Individually, Rhyan Marshall placed fifth, Sterling Rector ninth and Chloe Blunk 11th overall. In the placings portion of the contest, Chloe Blunk was first, Rhyan Marshall seventh and Sterling Rector 11th. In reasons, Sterling Rector placed second and Rhyan Marshall was fifth in retail ID.
The Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes is held every August on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, with 4-H teams and individuals competing from throughout the state.
