Angel Hernandez elected as the 2018-2019 Oklahoma FCCLA first vice-president

Angel Hernandez of Cherokee is one of 10 students elected for the 2018-2019 state officer team of the Oklahoma CareerTech Family, Career and Community Leaders of America student organization.

Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and its affiliated student organization FCCLA, are integral components in the CareerTech system. This national student organization helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues.

Hernandez, a 2018-2019 senior at Cherokee High School, is the son of Alfonso Hernandez. His local adviser is Heather Gottsch.

Students took a test over FCCLA facts, gave a one-minute speech and interviewed within their regions. If they were chosen to go on to the second round of interviews, they interviewed again with the general interview committee. The committee then placed the final names on the ballot.

At the 2018 Oklahoma FCCLA State Convention, Hernandez was elected as the 2018-2019 Oklahoma FCCLA first vice-president.

State officer team members are responsible for duties such as planning and conducting workshops, installing district officers, and leading chapter officer training. The officer team also plans and presides over state convention, works with members to increase membership and helps to raise awareness of FCCLA in the state.
