A driver who said he fell asleep woke to a wild ride on Tuesday, April 10. Dakota Shaw Davis, 24, of Weatherford was driving north toward Alva on U.S. Highway 281 South near Harper Road at 5:30 a.m. He told Alva Police K9 Officer John Caviness that he fell asleep. His 2011 black Chevrolet Avalanche crossed over into the southbound traffic lane and left the roadway, striking a road sign. The vehicle returned to the roadway and traveled 257 feet and crossed the roadway before returning to the northbound lane, leaving the roadway and overturning.
The vehicle struck an OG&E power pole and came to rest 34 feet east of the highway. The vehicle was pulling an enclosed box trailer that was also damaged.
